L-α-Glycerylphosphorylethanolamine (L-α-GPE) has been shown to have potential for the treatment of senile cerebral alteration,of both involutive and cerebro-valcular insufficiency origin,and of the related symptomatology,such as slowing of psychic activity,memory decrease,mood alteration,emotional weakness,etc.These potential,valuable uses for L-α-GPE have prompted exploration into its possible use as a medicinal applications and food additive,but it occurs naturally as only a trace compound and mainly presence in the liver,spleen,kidney and brain of oxen,and thus research into the production of high-purity of L-α-GPE would have important medicinal,social,economic,and research value.L-α-GPE previously obtainable by the extraction of biological material,the catalytic hydrolysis of plasmalogen,chemical synthesis and alcoholysis from egg or soy lecithin.
