Atrazine(2-chloro-4-ethylamino-6-isopropylamino-1,3,5-triazine) is a major herbicide in the s-triazine family that has been widely used on many crops.Its widespread use has resulted in contamination of soil and water.Some evidence suggests that atrazine may be an endocrine-disrupting chemical in amphibians,which gives it the potential to disrupt the ecological balance.Hayes et al.reported that male tadpoles of the African clawed frog (Xenopns laevis) exposed to water containing different levels of atrazine developed ovaries in addition to testes.Cadmium (Cd) is a nonessential metal and is toxic to most organisms.However,it has been found to play a role in carbonic anhydrase activity in the diatom species Thalassiosira weissflogii.
