Until the 1980s, Samsung was still an original equipment manufacturer. After believing that Samsung focused too heavily on producing low quality cheap products, chairman Lee Kun-hee started a revolution trying to improve the product quality. In the late 1990s, Samsung was almost brought down by the Asian Financial Crisis. Coupled with the new revolution strategy and the near bankruptcy experience, Samsung started to invest in innovation aggressively. The commitment in innovation is a major contributor to the fast growth of Samsung in recent years.
