This paper presents a new watermarking algorithm based on chaotic map. In our algorithm, a class of piecewise linear chaotic map (PLCM) is employed for the chaotic watermark generation, and a novel embedding method is proposed. To improve the embedding performance, a human visual system (HVS) model is exploited to embed the watermark adaptively. The chaotic watermark is embedded into the middle frequency coefficients of discrete cosine transformation (DCT) domain, keeping the chaotic parameter and initial condition as private key. Simulation results demonstrate that the watermark generated with the proposed algorithm is invisible and secure, the watermarking scheme is robust against commonly used image processing operations, such as loss JPEG compression, Gaussian noise pollution, cropping, etc.
