Wireless sensor network (WSN) has broad application prospect in large monitoring area, such as coal fire and the water level monitoring, and the data transmission from the monitoring node to the center is a key. A self-adapting heartbeat mechanism based on Winsocket has designed for keeping the reliability and stability of the TCP/IP remote communication between WSN and the monitoring center in field climate. This self-adapting heartbeat mechanism can request to reconnect with remote clients or server when network is at the jam and inform or at the disconnection by transmitting heartbeat packet data between server and client and judging the connecting status between server and client This heartbeat mechanism has been used on the Xinjiang coalfield fire zone's WSN remote monitoring system which is based on client/server (C/S) model. The testing of the system running status indicated that the heartbeat mechanism had been improved the data communication's reliability and stability of the monitoring system and realized the system's maintenance-free.
