Loading Frequency Effect on the Fatigue Properties of S15C Carbon Steel and Some discussions based on Dislocation Behaviors

摘要

The effect of the loading frequency on the fatigue properties of metallic materials remains unclear. The fatigue properties of low carbon steels are known to be particularly sensitive to the loading frequency. Thus, the authors of the present work have performed fatigue tests on JIS S15C low carbon steel in a wide range of loading frequency of 0.2 Hz to 20 kHz. The aims of this study are (i) to reconfirm the frequency effect, (ii) to observe the fatigue behavior at each individual frequency and (iii) to explain the frequency effect in accordance with the micro-structure of S15C steel. Finally, some discussions will consider the effects of the pearlitic volume fraction on the fatigue behavior of carbon steel.
