Iron ore sintering blend includes a large part of return sinter fines which ranges from 25 to 50 wt%. Such large variations in the content of return sinter fines are bound to influence the sintering process and quality of sinter produced. The purpose of the investigations presented in the article is to determine the effect of variations in the content of return sinter fines in the sinter blend with the simultaneous variations in the blend basicity and the content of breeze coke in the blend on sintering process and sinter mechanical properties. The Factors Design Plan was employed in the investigation. Investigations have shown that the generation of return sinter fines depends most on the quantity of fuel in a sintering blend and share of return sinter fines in the blend. Increasing the amount of return sinter fines in the sintered blend causes a reduction in the quantities of return sinter fines generated in sintering process. The efficiency of the process of sintering increases in proportion to the quantity of return sinter fines in the sintered mixture (the best results at blend basicity equal to 1.6). It was established that the maximum amount of return sinter fines in the sinter blend, ensuring the balance for the return sinter fines in the range of 90-110% should not exceed 35 wt% and the minimum amount should not be lower than 25 wt%.
