The collaborative DFMA process at Tellabs is based on the principles of design simplification, as well as the utilization of software-based assessment tools to maximize cost avoidance in the product development process. Product Engineers utilize these processes and tools to assess product designs continuously throughout the product development process. Central to the success of the process is the constructive dialogue between the manufacturing and development engineers after feedback is provided back to the design team. As a result of this successful DFMA process, cost avoidance through design simplification and assembly efficiency has been realized on many products at Tellabs.
