Study of Firecracker Explosion Mechanism by Accelerating Rate Calorimeter

In order to analyze explosion mechanism of firecracker for taking good measures to prevent fire and explosion accident, dry and wet firecracker samples were investigated by Accelerating Rate Calorimeter (ARC). Basing on test data, pseudo-inverse matrix method was used to calculate dynamics parameters of wet samples such as Em n and A these were applied to modified the test data by considering of thermal inertia factor Φ of sample system. The results show that the initial exothermic temperature of wet firecrackers is 49.06 °C with the maximum temperature being 573.83 °C and the time to maximum self-heating rate being 119.83 mins, otherwise the initial exothermic temperature of dry samples are much higher than wet samples but near the second reaction temperature of wet samples. As a result, wet firecrackers are much easier to react and two reactions take place, water must act as an important reactanl during the first reaction, when Φ > 7, wet sample will not bring the second reaction, but Φ < 6 , wet sample will do, so it is very necessary to take measures to prevent dry firecracker from being wet and drying temperature for wet firecracker should be lower than 49 °C.
