STATUS OF NUCLEAR HYDROGEN PROJECT IN KOREA

Among various hydrogen production methods, nuclear hydrogen using a very high temperature reactor can provide a success path to a hydrogen economy by its clean, safe, efficient, massive and technology-led hydrogen production. In light of this, Ministry of Science and Technology of Korea launched a Nuclear Hydrogen Development and Demonstration (NHDD) project in 2004 and now Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute is focusing on the research and development of the key technologies required for the design and realization of a nuclear hydrogen system. This paper introduces the Korean hydrogen economy roadmap, then, discusses the pre-conceptual design of the NHDD system, the technical challenges, and the progress and plan of research and development being carried out under the national nuclear hydrogen key technologies development project.
