The oxides of nitrogen (NOx) are one of the principal pollutants during the coal combustion, which has caused the serious issues of environment. Various advanced combustion systems have been developed to reduce the NOx emission. The combination of low NOx burner (LNB) and air staging system is the widely used technique, as it can control production of volatile NOx effectively. The modeling work studying the process of volatile nitrogen release has been carried out by FG-DVC pyrolysis model, in order to provide the reliable reference for designing the LNB and air staging combustion system. The mechanism of NOx emission from volatile N in a Horizontal bias combustion system has been confirmed by CHEMKIN 4.1. It demonstrates the maximum reduction ratio appears in the condition of 1.22 ER, which is 3 % - 4 % and 10 % - 15 % higher than that of 0.77 and 0.39 equivalence ratios, respectively. The sensitivity study of all basic reactions indicates that NH2 and HCCO affect the NOx reduction obviously, while the impacts of HCCO and CH3 are weaker.
