Calcium salts of carboxylic acids, such as calcium magnesium acetate (CMA), have the potential to be effective as the dual NOx and SOx reductant in the combustion of coal in the power plant applications. As a possible dry desulfurization agent, the reactivity of the calcination product of calcium magnesium acetate (CMA) was evaluated. It was shown that NOx could be reduced under the reburning condition, so NOx and SO2 could be reduced simultaneously by ejecting desulfurater (CMA) into the reburning zone. The physicochemical characteristics of CMA would affect the result of desulphurization and denitrification. Taking into account the important effect of the calcination process on the sorbent utilization during their injection, both of removing H2S and SO2 in the coal combustion boilers, a study of the effect of residence time on the calcination process was carried out.
