Bending behaviour plays "an important role in aesthetics, handle and wearing of apparel, but the factors are complex. Regarding to end-use conditions, a combination method for the measurement of bending behaviour and appending shape has been proposed to estimate bending rigidity. The corresponding apparatus for the characterization of the handle properties of fabrics and yarns (CHS-FY) has also been developed to realize the evaluation of fabric bending under the large deflection. CHS-FY system can measure multiple mechanical properties through a single testing, which include bending, weight, tensile properties and appending image of fabrics and yarns. The theoretical modeling of bending behaviour has been derived through the stretching the specimen and transforming the coordinates system; then, the formula of bending rigidity is found. The comparison of bending rigidity values between the theoretical and experimental results shows good accordance, which indicates that the CHS-FY system is effective and feasible in measuring bending rigidity.
