摘要

Chloramines are used widely as a secondary disinfectant to limit trihalomethane and haloacetic acid (HAA) formation; however, significant dihaloacetic acid concentrations can still form. The chloramines include monochloramine, dichloramine and trichloramine. Of these, monochloramine is the species that dominates under drinking water treatment conditions. In the presence of bromide, bromine-substituted haloamines and haloacetic acids are formed, greatly increasing the number of chemical species that may be relevant in controlling DXAA formation. Limiting the formation of bromine-substituted HAAs is of particular interest because recent studies have shown that they may pose a greater health risk than their chlorine-substituted counterparts.
