Fusion Bonded Epoxy powder coatings have been available for over 40 years and in the past 13 or more years have been available in a range of dual layer systems and also in combination with polyolefins in multiple layer trilaminate protective systems to provide corrosion protection for steel pipelines, including high pressure gas transmission lines. Examples of dual layer FBE systems include non slip, to improve shear strength under concrete weight coatings, for shallow lay barge applications, as water resistant coatings at high temperature, and the main subject of this presentation, as an abrasion resistant system when used as a thinner film, for main pipeline coating. The application method and performance test methods will be discussed, including some field performance statistics and an overview of new generation products.
