Challenges to Build Web-Based Scientific Databases

This paper presents a framework, called iSAID, to provide a web-based implementation of the existing Scattering Analysis Interactive Dial-in system (SAID). SAID has a number of components extensively used by the Nuclear/Particle physics communities. It also contains experimental results from a wide and expanding range of scattering reactions. These are linked to the results of phenomenological analyses and theoretical models ⅰ) to help experimentalists plan experiments and compare their results with previous experiments and predictions, and ⅱ) to provide theorists with immediate access to the latest experimental results and their interpretations. In addition to porting SAID to the web, iSAID also provide a scientific database for structured experimental data, information retrieval facilities for supplementary textual and graphical information, and convenient tools for user-computer interaction, all available from the World Wide Web. In this paper, we present challenges to migrate SAID to iSAID and give the overall architecture of the new system.
