Ten Years of Operational Experience with ALSTOM’s aircooled TOPAIR Turbogenerators in the 300 MVA Class and above

Ten years ago the evolution of ALSTOM's air aircooled turbogenerator technology allowed -cooled TOPAIR turbogenerators to be built in the 300 MVA class. Subsequent development has further extended this up to the 400 MVA range. These generators are characterised by their simplicity and ease of operation and maintenance. They have also proven their maturity in ALSTOM GT24/GT26 gas turbine applications as well as on numerous ALSTOM steam turbines and non -^sAL ALSTOM turbines. The rating of this generator allows for the application of aircooled STOM technology in power ranges where hydrogen cooled generators were used previously. TOPAIR technology with highest ratings has now accumulated more than 1.8 million of successful operating hours. This paper details the operational experience with turbogenerator ratings of 300 MVA and above over the last ten years including the success story of TOPAIR in China.
