The registration process, its effect on active substance availability, and initiatives to reduce the impact on minor crops at both UK and EU level

The EU review process is having an impact on the availability of active substances, both through commercial withdrawals of substances and more recently through actives substances failing to meet the standards of environmental, user and consumer safetydemanded. The impact of loss falls heaviest on minor uses. Although there are a number of new active substances gaining authorisation, in some situations effective control measures are no longer available to meet all the challenges posed by the range ofpests weeds and diseases challenging crops. A number of initiatives are being put in place both at EU and UK level to increase the availability of products on minor crops.
