An overview of the Pesticide Residues Committee's national programme of pesticide residues testing and discussion of consumer and other stakeholder interests in this area

An extensive monitoring programme is undertaken each year in the UK for pesticide residues in food and drink. A brief overview is provided of the regulatory principles which underpin safe approval and use of pesticides. Further information about the national programme and the annual results are discussed alongside some of the issues raised by stakeholders.The Pesticides Residues Committee (PRC) is independent of government and was established to advise the UK government and the Food Standards Agency on the official pesticide monitoring programme. The PRC is also responsible for making public all findingsand recommendations available to government, consumers and the farming industry in a way which aims to be comprehensive, understandable and timely.
