The fast growth in microelectronics has forced increasing demands for high pure gallium and has attributed to advancements in technologies related to gallium recovery and purification. The trend is ever shifting to more economical and environmentally sounds processes. Solvent extraction of gallium from Bayer liquor using various types of extractants is reviewed in terms of both fundamental investigations and process development work. The stability of extractants is also focused in this paper.
