For the past eight years, the drilling industry has come to terms with the need for corrosion protection in drilling equipment. Internal Plastic Coatings (IPC) have proven to be the most cost effective means of corrosion protection of piping. Of the three types of coating chemistries; thermoplastic, chemical reactive, and thermoset; thermoset products have proven to have the best combination of chemical resistance and physical properties. The challenges have come by way of new drilling, stimulation, and completion fluids. The thermoset products have satisfied all of these needs. The onset of more deep water drilling has created a large need for application of these products to choke & kill and booster lines for drilling, completion risers and associated equipment.
