This paper proposes a control method designed for human character animation using agent technology. The coordinating the motion between human characters causes various issues in communication, interaction, cooperation, and coherence. These issues are not adequately dealt with in many existing animation development systems for human character. Based on this categorization, our system extracts the control information for motion by interchanging messages between human characters using agent concept. The relations of each motion performed by each human character are not expressed explicitly in the message, which means system has to guess the control information about the motion relation between human characters. In order to determine what the motion of human character is and to extract detailed information about other human character, the system uses a Petri-net analysis model that contains all the information about the motion animation of human character in virtual environment. The system can estimate the situation of a human character based on the state transition that are explained in the Finite State Machine, and then can extract information about each human character such as its position, motion data, and the moving path. This information is used for determining details to control the motion of the each human character. The system supports an excellent service platform about human character animation. This paper addresses a merit that is obtained by developing such an agent-based system.
