Detail investigations were carried out on iron ore slimes of Boloni and Meghahatburu washing plants with a view to recover most of the iron values. The studies include physical and chemical characteristics and beneficiation studies by hydrocyclone and wet high intensity magnetic separator (WHIMS). The effect of both design and operating parameters were evaluated in each case. The results of hydrocyclone reveal that a product with 66.0% Fe, 0.42% SiO_2 and 1.52% Al_2O_3 can be obtained from Meghahatburu slimes with 87% iron recovery where as Boloni slimes can give a product with 65.5% Fe, 1.0% SiO_2 and 2.2% Al_2O_3 at 85% iron recovery. Almost similar results were obtained by using WHIMS. The product thus obtained can be suitably used in sinter mix of the existing plants.
