In this work an attempt was undertaken to verify chosen ecological mechanical surface treatments like various technological options of NaHCO_3 blasting, solid CO_2 blasting, and grinding as reference. The effect of mechanical surface treatments on corrosion properties of un-protected and protected by oxide films surfaces of AZ31 was evaluated by means of electrochemical methods in simulated body solutions (SBF). It is concluded that in some applications shot blasting using NaHCO_3 followed by water rinse and drying by compressed air can be an ecological alternative to chemical pre-treatment in solutions containing fluoride ions.
