A team of three clothing design students and three retail merchandising students collaborated on developing this design concept. The team selected the user group of female cyclists who use their bikes to travel to casual social events. Research of user group wants and needs indicated that this group was dissatisfied with available cycle wear that was too athletic looking. The team goal was to design a garment that satisfied all of the necessary functional needs of comfort and movement, yet have a fashion look. Silhouette and clor trends were researched and several prototype garments were constructed, fit, and wear tested. The final design is a capri pantwith a side-zip over skirt. The asymmetrical, side-zip skirt is worn over the capri pant. A small zippered pouch at the side front of the skirt can be used as a pocket or carry pouch. when the cyclist is ready to travel, she removes the skirt folds it compactly into the pouch and the pouch becomes a small carry bag for the skirt.
