In deregulated electricity market, the gradual load growth leads to complex scenario in power system. The exponential load growth may result in outage of transmission lines from the system which results in congestion scenario in power system. Therefore, the independent system operator (ISO) must ensure the smooth and reliable supply of power during the congestion scenario of power system. Out of various methods, this paper considers generator to reschedule their output for congestion alleviation. The system generators are allowed to readjust their output to mitigate congestion in the transmission system. Different case studies are performed, analyzed and compared to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed work. A new metaheuristic algorithm named slime mould algorithm (SMA) has been utilized to formulate the proposed objective function of congestion management. The tested system is modified IEEE 30 bus network for analyzing the proposed work.
