LOCAL SUPPLIER DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK

Considering that sustainable development entails meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs - this concept has become a real innovation driver to grow the formal economy. Having a strong manufacturing supplier base is important to any society or community, because it stimulates all the other sectors of the economy. Developing local suppliers deserves a strong and continuous endeavour of all actors in a modern society to ensure prosperity, better life and sustainable development. Therefore, the objective of this study was to develop a conceptual framework to assist and manage the development of local suppliers. After a thorough literature study and considering governmental policies a framework was developed from interviews with specialists, own experiences and by evaluating case studies. A local titanium supplier development project was used as validation. The local supplier development framework's elements and life cycle correlated with the phases of the project.
