Mobile technology has developed dramatically worldwide, and it brings many benefits to English teaching and learning and promotes the informatization reformation of English instruction. As a result, a new way of learning called mobile learning appears under this trend. Through a questionnaire into the adoption of mobile technology in English instruction in institutes of higher vocational education in Hubei province of central China, this paper investigates the situation of the following seven areas of mobile technology in English instruction, namely the adoption level of mobile technology, the possibility of adopting mobile technology in the next 1-2 years, the types of mobile technology adopted, the main obstacles to mobile technology adoption, the availability of mobile devices to students in the classroom, the interest of leadership in purchasing tablets for student use, and the possible benefits from adopting mobile technology. Finally, unsatisfactory results about the adoption of mobile technology in English instruction are revealed in the questionnaire.
