Analysis of Female Characters in a Dream of Red Mansions - Taking Xue Baochai as an Example

A dream of Red Mansions is a classic Chinese classical novel, in which the characters are always discussed by the fans of Red Mansions. Xue Baochai, as one of the main characters, is a typical feudal woman. In Xue Baochai's character image, she has the qualities of the feudal lady's virtuous, as well as the characteristics of the shrewd and sophisticated personality. At the same time, the combination of rationality and sensibility in her character also makes the readers realize a full and multifaceted character image. This paper analyzes Xue Baochai's artistic image through three representative identities: the virtuous lady of the family, the noble lady who takes the whole situation into consideration, the cool beauty who has both sensibility and rationality. And through the brief comments of some scholars, this paper analyzes the artistic image of Xue Baochai, expecting to feel the infinite charm of her artistic image.
