The evolution of the aeronautic norms relative to pollution and noise emissions as well as the increase of the petrol price have renewed the interest of the aeronautic industry for the Contra Rotating Open Rotor (CROR) propulsion systems. In this context, ONERA (the French Aerospace Lab) has decided to develop a new rig, called BHCR, with enhanced specifications proposing a new standard for wind tunnel tests of CROR. This new rig is equipped with a specially designed embarked acquisition system allowing treating a large volume of data. This paper details the characteristics of this new rig and gives an overview of the rig performances achieved during a first test campaign performed in June 2013 in the ONERA S1MA large transonic wind tunnel. It also evokes new test techniques developed for CROR tests such as the measurement of blade deformations, the visualization of blade boundary layer transition and the acoustic measurements.
