Recent developments in the built environment field have seen an influx in the use of technology such as the increasing use of software for design, measurement, scheduling and planning work, including the implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM). For the teaching of build environment programmes to remain relevant, most Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) have included an increasing number of technology courses to train and teach students for developing skills within these areas, as required by the industry. This paper examines the need for the inclusion of BIM within the curriculum and its implementation, with its scope on Quantity Surveying students in IHLs in Malaysia. The four stages of achievement investigated in the implementation of BIM module are the Introductory, Comprehension, Application and Collaboration stages. Preliminary data has shown that to be successful, the framework for the implementation of BIM module needs is hinged not only on sufficient infrastructure and facilities and appropriately trained teaching staff, but also the students' perception on the significance of the subject to their field of studies and the assessments methods adopted by the IHLs.
