摘要

Streptococcus pneumoniae is responsible for several inflammation diseases such as pneumonia, otitis or meningitis. Even though a vaccine already exists and suppresses most of the infections, it does not protect against all strains. Among them is the type S37. Synthesizing part of capsular polysaccharide (CPS) responsible for its virulence could allow 3D-structure investigations to be performed and interestingly trigger a sufficient immune response if used as a vaccine construct. CPS from this organism is a homopolymer consisting of repeating units, ->3)[β-D-Glcp-(1->2)]-β-D-Glcp-(1->, and it is immunogenic. Hexasaccharides or octasaccharides made of this sequence are the main targets of this project.
