The City of Santa Monica (City) is an oceanfront community located in Southern California (USA). It is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and Santa Monica Bay, on the north by Malibu, and on the east and the south by the City of Los Angeles. The City has a resident population of approximately 90,000 people and a daytime business employment population exceeding 100,000. In addition, summer tourism further increases the population of the City. Declaring itself a sustainable city in 1994, Santa Monica leads the State of California in its efforts to safeguard and enhance its resources, to prevent harm to the natural environmental and human health, and to sustain and benefit the community and local economy for the sake of current and future generations.
