Due to-site limitations, some seamless steel pipes require contact ultrasound inspection. However, it is difficult to perform contact inspection with conventional ultrasound, and the inspection efficiency is very low. This paper proposes an ultrasound phased array inspection solution for seamless pipes, which is for achieving whole beam coverage of steel pipes with features such as multi-angle scanning of phased array. With this solution, an experiment was carried out by comparing work pieces and comparison vs. conventional ultrasound. It is therefore concluded that ultrasound phased array applies to seamless steel pipe testing.
