We present the application of pulse-compression technique for the ultrasonic inspection of forged steel structures with high dissipation and large dimensions. We theoretically and experimentally analyze the performance of such techniques by exploiting Linear Chirp signals. Based on the preliminary results, we find that the strategy achieves significant enhancement of the Signal to Noise Ratio and then of the inspection capability. Further performance increase can be achieved by exploiting signal processing and by developing proper hardware.
