Are things, objects? A semiotic contribution to the Web of Things

摘要

In this paper I examine under which semiotic conditions the things that participate to the Web of Things can be culturally integrated by our societies and information systems. Using a semiotic methodology I make explicit the semiotic differences that exist between a thing and an object. Our central hypothesis is that the move from things to objects should improve the integration of WoT into our societies and information systems. I argue that the memory of communities should play a key role in that integration.
