摘要

Regulations regarding fuel consumption and emissions all over the world represent one of the automobile industry's major challenges. Fulfilling these legal requirements and at the same time customer demands for performance, comfort and noise, inevitably leads to a powertrain that has been optimized as a whole - a powertrain that is effectively "connected" within itself. Achieving the bestpossible overall solution instead of local optimizations demands connecting all technical domains during interdisciplinary development. Solutions specific to certain regions and tailored to market demands also require networked collaboration across several countries and continents in order to facilitate the necessary efficiency in terms of costs. Last but not least, the increasing complexity of applications and products with shorter development cycles demands additional expansion in research and advanced development so as to allow networking along the value-added chain.
