e-gas - An Important Element on the Way to CO_2-Neutral Mobility

Natural gas has already been available as a fuel on European markets for many years under the label CNG. Through the addition of biomethane and synthetic CNG produced using excess electricity, it offers increasing CO_2 benefits. Because natural gas grids have substantial storage capacity at their disposal, CNG also offers the possibility of storing renewably generated energy on a large scale. These benefits can also be used for the mobility sector, with many of the prerequisites for this being relatively straightforward to achieve. Attractive vehicle offerings, a well-developed fuel station network, a high degree of economic feasibility and secure political circumstances motivate customers to see CNG as a beneficial fuel. The CNG market in Italy is an impressive example. Volkswagen is thus pursuing its CNG strategy with determination and is securing the support of a wide range of partners. CNG can only achieve its breakthrough if mobility providers, the gas sector and politics work together.
