Nemak - Your global Partner for Innovation and Development in Powertrain

Nemak is a global company in automotive foundry business, specialized in the production of high complex aluminum components such as cylinder heads, engine blocks, transmission parts and structural components. Nemak's global footprint is reflected by more than 21,000 employees working in 35 manufacturing plants strategically located across 15 countries, serving the most important automotive markets, such as the growing Chinese market. These manufacturing plants are accompanied and served by 8 Product Development Centers, which are responsible for development and innovation. Currently more than 100 new product development programs and 37 R& D programs are in execution in this development organization. Main innovation segments are new product features, electric powertrain, alloy development, core technology development, casting technologies and improvement of properties. Two current examples of Nemak's innovation potential are illustrated in this paper. Firstly, the development and application of a new high temperature resistant type of Aluminium alloy (NemAlloy HT200). This alloy is characterized by outstanding thermal resistance and high temperature strength - three times higher than current standard Al cast alloys. In addition to the outstanding properties NemAlloy HT200 can be applied in state-of-the-art gasoline and diesel cylinder head designs without a demand for significant design changes using Nemak's high performance Rotacast process. NemAlloy HT200 is one of Nemak's solutions for highly loaded diesel and gasoline engine generations of the future. Secondly, the invention and industrialization of NemaCoat, a special thermal barrier coating that is capable to help combustion engines overcome temperature and packaging challenges. NemaCoat is an example for Nemak's innovation potential, which is not limited to pure foundry applications but going far beyond daily business. NemaCoat can be used in a wide range of applications, its main area of operations will be seen in high temperature gasoline engines of future generations.
