Field experiments were conducted at coastal zone soils South India with calcium silicate as Silicon ( Si) source and calcium carbonate as equivalent amount of calcium supplied by the calcium silicate. The highest grain yield was noticed in plots treated with 4 t calcium silicate per hectare during the years. Significant grain yield increase was observed with the application of CaCO3even up to 4 t · ha-1 during 2007 but not during 2006. Maximum straw yield was noticed in the plots receiving 3 t · ha-1 and 4 t · ha-1 of calcium silicate during 2006 and 2007 respectively. In general, the average increase in yield with calcium carbonate application was lower than calcium silicate treated plots. Application of both calcium silicate and CaCO3 increased the pH and decreased the total, exchangeable and hydrolytic acidity in the soils collected after the harvest of rice crop during 2007.
