China Steel Corporation (CSC) has four blast furnaces in operation with an average PC rate of 136-143 kg/thm with the dilute phase injection system in 2006-2007. No.4 blast furnace reached a PC rate of 151 kg/thm in February 2004, approximately 117 percent of the designed injection capacity of 45t/hr. Due to the limitation of the injection capacity of the existing system; CSC carried out a project to upgrade the injection system in 2006. The injection system of CSC No.4 blast furnace was modified to dense phase system according to the technology of KUETTNER Company in one scheduled shutdown in May 2007. Through the proper burden distribution and operational parameter adjustment, the PC rate was increased to 178 kg/thm in November 2007, corresponding to a 65t/hr injecting rate with a productivity of 2.58 t/m3/d. This paper describes the modifications of the injection system, the problems encountered after commissioning and the strategies of process control.
