RELIABILITY OF THE PROTECTION SYSTEM AND ITS IMPACT ON THE RELIABILITY OF SUPPLY

The protection system plays important roles in power system security and reliability, and fault and interruption statistics show a significant impact on the reliability of supply and the interruption costs. This paper describes models developed for different fault types related to protection and control and a methodology for incorporation of these fault types in the reliability of supply assessment. The enhanced methodology enables assessment of the impact from the protection system on the reliability of supply and interruption costs. The models and methodology has been demonstrated by a real case, showing the importance of taking the influence of the protection system into account.
