Merging Groups of Writing Professionals in Response to Corporate Acquisitions: Issues and Responses from the Acquirer and the Acquired

Corporate mergers are a way of life in today's business environment. When one company acquires another, the inevitable clash of cultures, tools, and processes can be stressful for both the acquired and the acquirer. The authors, now part of a single writing group that spans eight cities on two continents, represent both perspectives and report on their year of transition. They identify issues that their writing groups faced as they were merged into one. They report on data from a survey of acquired writing groups within their company to determine whether these writers faced the same issues and how they resolved them. Finally, they describe how they overcame the challenges posed by the merger of their groups and offer recommendations for easing this kind of transition in other companies.
