PACKAGING ENGINEERING: RESPONDING TO INDUSTRY NEEDS MARKET CHANGE

Christian Brothers University (CBU) has offered a packaging program in response to industry needs and the decrease in enrollment of traditional engineering disciplines. The program, started with an elective course in packaging, has grown into a certificate program and is moving toward a new B.S. in Packaging Engineering. In the last few years, efforts have been focused on lab infrastructure, recruiting activities, and industry collaboration. This paper describes the progress made to date and the vision that will result in a unique and innovative packaging program, which will increase enrollment at CBU as well as serve industry needs.
