LONG-TERM EXPERIENCE IN THE APPLICATION OF CORROSION PROTECTION SYSTEMS IN FLUE GAS DESULPHURIZATION PLANTS ON A GLOBAL SCALE OFFERS SAFETY FOR CHINESE POWER PLANTS

Over a period of meanwhile nearly 35 years the manufacturer of the rubber lining and resin coating industries have executed the lining of several million square meters of steel surfaces in hundreds of scrubbers of flue gas desulphurization (FGD) plants world-wide, thereby effectively protecting them against corrosion. The application of special rubber lining and resin coating materials as surface protection in flue gas desulphurization plants has been proven effective. The paper gives an overview of the materials usually employed today and describes their field of use as well as various application methods. Several years ago, the Peoples Republic of China began outfitting power plants with systems designed to reduce the sulphur dioxide content in the flue gases. Coating and rubber lining materials which are applied in many FGD plants world-wide and are successfully in use for a long time, are meanwhile employed with success in Chinese FGD plants. Many FGD plants are already operational or in the process of being constructed, however the sheer number of plants remaining to be retrofitted is enormous.
