Over recent years a lot of effort has gone into improving corporate governance within public companies. But what about engineering governance? Companies which are involved in complex, systems engineering-based projects face a lot of risk. This risk should be minimised as much as possible through the implementation of Good Engineering Governance (GEG). Improved engineering governance would assure the numerous stakeholders involved in large projects that controls are in place to effectively manage the engineering function. The GEG project at Loughborough University is looking at the stages needed to introduce an engineering governance framework into a large defence systems integration business. This paper looks at the initial findings of the GEG project and what is involved in the next stage.
