摘要

In breast cancer patients, metastasis is the leading cause of mortality and poor clinical outcome. The metastatic process involves a complicated series of events that depends largely on the interaction of the primary tumor and the local host environment. During the course of metastasis, dissociation, migration, invasion of cancer cells from the primary tumor undergo degradation of the extracellular matrix (ECM), and adhesion/spread to distant sites resulting in the formation of a secondary tumor. Each ECM component is depredated and remodeled by specific matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) group. MMPs are a family of zinc-dependent proteases that play an essential role in tumor migration, invasion and metastasis.
