On the 30th of June 2003 the first group of satellites built following the CubeSat picosatellites concept were launched to the Earth's orbit, among them the AAU-CubeSat which was built at Aalborg University. Prom that time more CubeSats have been developed at different universities getting the students started on space engineering applications. Based on the author's current involvement in a CubeSat satellite project at Aalborg University, the AAUSAT-II, this paper will describe briefly what the CubeSat concept is and how it has been used at Aalborg University along these last years. It will focus on the AAUSAT-II, currently in process, describing the satellite, its mission, life-cycle, structure and overall organization and management. Hereafter the benefits for the students involved are discussed.
