Developments in UTP Cable Test Methodology and Analysis of Alien Crosstalk for 10GBASE-T Applications

Important factors to be considered for developing a laboratory test for alien crosstalk are given. An analysis of the effect of the cable strand twist length on alien crossstalk is described. Test assembly configurations involving seven cables or two cables are defined and measured results of alien crosstalk for 100m, 50m and 30m length test assemblies are given over the frequency band 1-500MHz. Preliminary results indicate little difference between 100m and 30m test assemblies. However, additional comparative study of the seven cable and two cable assemblies is recommended.
