It is shown that it is essential to keep the electrolyte canal very thin when using a liquidelectrolyte in DMFC – fuel cell systems. The performance development compared to thethickness of the canal is shown. The influence of the so called "Methanol-Crossover" isdiscussed and verified that it can be minimized by pumping the electrolyte through the cell.The performance increase of using a liquid electrolyte for a DMFC in comparison to aPEM-DMFC consisting of the same components is described.
